The Awake NY x Air Jordan 5 “Bubblegum / Arctic Pink” is the rarer half of Angelo Baque’s AJ5 project, produced as a numbered edition of only 7,000 pairs - nearly half the production of the accompanying Black/Racer Blue version. Bubblegum and Arctic Pink dominate the leather upper, giving Tinker Hatfield’s aggressive fighter-jet-inspired silhouette an unexpectedly soft foundation before Racer Blue and Metallic Silver details bring back the sharp contrast. Awake makes the collaboration unmistakable at the quarter panels, where the Jordan 5’s standard translucent netting is reworked around the brand’s recognizable “A” motif. The usual “23” embroidery at the lateral heel is also replaced with an oversized Awake “A,” while Nike Air branding remains stamped across the rear. A reflective Metallic Silver tongue preserves one of the AJ5’s defining original details, finished with contrasting branding that becomes especially pronounced under flash. The collection’s boro influence introduces ideas of repair, layering, and textile craft into the presentation, connecting Japanese patchwork traditions with Awake NY’s multicultural New York perspective. Most importantly for collectors, the limited quantity isn’t simply marketing language: pairs are individually numbered as part of the 7,000-pair run. Between its dramatically smaller production, unconventional Pink palette, modified AJ5 branding, and Awake’s first major treatment of the silhouette, this is the harder-to-find version of an already tightly controlled collaboration.
