Where the Varsity Red carries the weight of Tim Hardaway's court presence and the Nike controversy that made the silhouette impossible to ignore, the Varsity Royal has always been the more considered alternative — the same aggressive Eric Avar construction in a blue-and-black execution that reads as controlled where the red reads as combustible. Varsity Royal covers the full upper cage construction in a saturated electric blue that lands against black mesh underlays with sharp color contrast at every slit and panel edge — the Air Bakin's signature molded polyurethane upper with its horizontal cut panels creating a dimensional, layered surface in the royal blue that catches light differently from every angle. Black nubuck wraps the mudguard and lower structural zones with a premium matte surface that grounds the electric blue above it, while silver ankle hardware provides the metallic precision detail that prevents the blue-and-black combination from reading flat.
