Where the 2010 "Grinch" is the most beloved Christmas basketball shoe ever produced for its nuclear neon-green celebration of the season, the "Coals" takes the exact opposite position: if the Grinch is what happens when Christmas arrives in full force, the Coals is what happens when it doesn't. A black scaled snake-skin upper covers the full primary surface of the Kobe 6 Protro — the scaly Mamba-skin texture that has run across the Kobe 6's most iconic colorways since the original 2010 production returning here in total black, the texture providing the surface depth that connects the coal concept to Kobe's identity simultaneously. Black covers the heel support structure, tongue, laces, and midsole base, keeping every structural element in the same dark palette as the upper. The Swoosh provides the colorway's most dramatic visual element: a gradient running from Venom Green at the front of the Swoosh to Purple Venom at the rear, the two colors merging across the logo in the specific neon-to-purple shift that Sole Retriever's in-hand preview confirmed resembles lightning bolt graphics.
