The Air Jordan 7 Retro "Raptors" is the third retro of one of the AJ7's five original 1992 colorways — returning for the first time in fifteen years during the silhouette's 35th anniversary year. The "Raptors" nickname is one of the most widely cited misnomers in sneaker history: the colorway was created in 1992, three years before the Toronto Raptors franchise existed, as a Black, True Red, and Eggplant combination Michael Jordan wore during the 1992 playoffs en route to his second consecutive NBA championship. Its official name is "Playoffs." A black Durabuck upper covers the AJ7's full high-top construction — Nike's proprietary matte-finished premium suede-leather providing a more durable surface than standard nubuck while maintaining the colorway's understated dark character. Dark Charcoal provides a secondary tone across the mudguard and lower structural zones, adding tonal depth within the dark base. True Red lands on the midsole groove detailing, tongue branding, and lace tips as the colorway's most immediately visible accent. Eggplant arrives at the heel pull tabs, outsole accents, and select midsole details as the tertiary tone that gives the "Raptors" its specific three-color identity.
