The AJ4 earns the series launch position because of its documented relationship to the Flight Club era: originally released in 1989, the AJ4 was among the first sneakers members of the original Flight Club could purchase with their membership benefits, making it the most historically accurate vehicle for a Flight Club tribute in the early Jordan silhouette catalog. The construction borrows its structural logic from the AJ4 "Military Black" - one of the AJ4's most praised construction variants - with a smooth Sail leather upper and white leather base as the primary surface combination. A grey suede toe cap with layered rippling stitching across the panel provides the colorway's most specific material detail, the suede contrasting the sail leather above it. Black accents land on the wing eyelets, most of the midsole sections, and heel tabs, while University Red highlights the Jumpman tongue logos and the Nike Air heel branding - the latter featuring red edging as an elevated construction detail over standard Jumpman treatment. The Flight Club logo appears on the tongue tag, and X-ray-style graphics run the custom insoles alongside Flight Club branding. The outsole revives the classic "Nike" stamp rather than standard Jumpman outsole branding, and special vintage-style packaging with collectible inserts completes the release.
