The Nike Air Zoom Flight The Glove "Royal Blue" is the first retro of this colorway since 2014 — a twelve-year gap that makes the December 19, 2026 return one of the most overdue archive revivals in Nike Basketball's recent calendar. Gary Payton's signature shoe was one of the most visually distinctive basketball shoes of the late 1990s not because of its color or material but because of its closure system: a front zipper replaced the traditional lacing entirely, wrapping the foot in a seamless, glove-like fit that gave the shoe its name and gave Payton the lockdown his relentless defensive game demanded. The zippered shroud construction begins at the toe and runs the full length of the upper, pulling closed over an inner bootie that provides the snug sock-like contact with the foot — the same construction logic the Air Flightposite used in 1999, earlier applied here to the Zoom Flight '98 platform. A velcro strap over the zipper closure adds a secondary fastening layer, and the entire shroud surface is finished in a silky-smooth Royal Blue — the deep, saturated blue that covers every inch of the upper without interruption. White leather panels break along the lateral side and forefoot for structural contrast, and white Swoosh logos appear on both surfaces, the forefoot Swoosh being the smaller of the two. Black appears at the collar binding and heel in the official palette's third tone. Royal Blue continues through the sculpted midsole underfoot, and "The Glove" is branded at the heel in the nickname Payton earned as the NBA's most feared defensive guard of his era. Zoom Air cushioning completes the performance foundation.
