The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG "Royal Blue" is the first leather retro of the original 1985 Royal colorway since 2017 — a nine-year absence that makes the 2026 return one of the most anticipated standard AJ1 High OG releases in recent memory, particularly given that the intervening 2023 "Royal Reimagined" replaced the colorway's defining smooth leather with suede and produced a version that failed to satisfy the demand for the original material execution. The 2026 build corrects that directly. Smooth premium leather covers the full upper in the two-tone black-and-Royal Blue color blocking that has defined this colorway since MJ first wore it during the 1985 Nike flight suit campaign — the most famous non-game-worn imagery in Air Jordan 1 history. Royal Blue leather lands on the perforated toe box, Swoosh, ankle collar, and heel panel, while smooth black leather covers the base, mid-panels, mudguard, eyestays, and lace guards — the same color relationship that made the "Royal" the most compelling alternative to the "Bred" and "Chicago" in MJ's 1985 debut collection. The construction uses the updated High OG shape first introduced on the "Lost & Found" Chicago — a blend of the 1994 cut and the '85 mold that most collectors consider the best Air Jordan 1 High proportions produced in the modern retro era. A nylon tongue carries Nike Air branding, the Wings logo stamps the ankle collar, a white midsole and Royal Blue rubber outsole complete the build, and special collector packaging accompanies the release.
