The AJ16 is the only Air Jordan in the catalog to feature a detachable leather shroud over the lacing system — a design decision that gave the shoe a uniquely formal, almost ceremonial quality when MJ wore it during the 2000-01 NBA season — and the Black Pack version leans fully into that luxury register. An ostrich-embossed leather covers the primary upper surface in the densely patterned, pebbled texture that immediately communicates premium construction at a material level no smooth or nubuck leather matches, the natural randomness of the ostrich pattern giving the blacked-out palette a surface depth that shifts perceptibly between light angles. The signature removable shroud is rendered in matching black ostrich-embossed leather, maintaining the silhouette's most distinctive design feature in the same elevated material as the base.
