The Air Jordan 17 Retro "College Blue" is the first-ever retro of an OG Air Jordan 17 mid-top colorway — Jordan Brand having revisited the AJ17 exclusively through its low-cut variant in recent years, leaving the high-top construction Michael Jordan actually wore on court absent from the retro calendar until now. The 2027 release marks the 25th anniversary of the original February 2002 drop during All-Star Weekend, honoring the colorway Jordan wore during his Washington Wizards comeback seasons — the College Blue palette connecting simultaneously to his alma mater at the University of North Carolina and to the Wizards' powder blue home uniform of that era. Designed by Wilson Smith III, the AJ17's construction draws from two sources: Michael Jordan's love of jazz music and the interior leather and body line design of a 1967 Aston Martin DBS — the car's chassis geometry informing the upper's flowing, curvilinear panel structure. A full white leather upper covers the AJ17's mid-top construction, and the signature removable black fabric shroud conceals the lacing system with musical note embroidery across its surface — the jazz reference embedded in the one construction element unique to this model. College Blue wraps the midsole accents, lace lock, and outsole. Chrome hardware throughout provides the luxury material accent at the eyelets, heel hardware, and lace lock. A Zoom Air heel unit, full-length shank plate, and large TPU heel counter complete the performance build, and the original metal briefcase packaging returns confirmed for the 2027 release.
