The Air Jordan 12 “French Blue” returns one of the most celebrated non-OG AJ12 colorways, notable both for its exceptionally clean construction and an unexpected Kobe Bryant on-court connection. White tumbled leather forms the radiating upper, while pebbled French Blue leather wraps the forefoot and mudguard, creating a crisp two-tone layout that feels natural enough to be mistaken for a 1996 original. Metallic Silver upper eyelets add hardware contrast, while small Varsity Red accents appear on the heel “23,” outsole, and vertical branding strip. The pair originally arrived in 2004, during Kobe Bryant’s famous sneaker free-agency period following his departure from adidas. Bryant wore numerous Air Jordans during that stretch, including the French Blue AJ12 with the Los Angeles Lakers’ throwback Blue-and-White Minneapolis uniforms, creating one of the colorway’s most memorable appearances. Its subsequent retro history has remained surprisingly limited: after the original, it returned only once in 2016 before the 2025 edition. That scarcity helped French Blue maintain an identity distinct from constantly reissued AJ12 staples. Tinker Hatfield’s Japanese Rising Sun-inspired stitched panels and sculpted mudguard remain unchanged, while the Blue application makes those architectural lines especially visible. It isn’t an original MJ colorway, but its early-2000s Jordan history and Kobe connection have given French Blue a legacy entirely its own.
