The Air Jordan 3 Retro Flip "Varsity Red" is only the third Air Jordan 3 Flip colorway ever produced — a Super Bowl LXI release timed to the game's February 14, 2027, date at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles that revives one of the most conceptually specific construction variants Jordan Brand has ever applied to an archival silhouette. The Flip format was introduced in 2007 and produced exactly two colorways before going dormant: the original White/Metallic Silver/Black/Varsity Red in 2007, and a Black-based version in 2011. The "Varsity Red" is the first new Flip colorway in sixteen years and the first time the concept has been used as the vehicle for a Super Bowl special release. The Flip designation names the single construction intervention that defines the format: the Air Jordan 3's elephant print is flipped from its standard placement. On every standard AJ3 retro ever produced, elephant print appears exclusively on the toe overlay and heel overlay — the two structural accent zones — while tumbled leather covers the primary upper panels. The Flip reverses that entirely: elephant print leather covers the full primary upper surface — the vamp, side panels, collar, and quarter panels — while the toe overlay and heel overlay that would normally carry the elephant print instead run in smooth tumbled leather, the two zones swapping their materials completely. Varsity Red elephant print leather covers the full primary upper in the rich, saturated red that has been the AJ3's most assertive accent color since 1988 — now promoted from its standard accent-zone position into the shoe's most dominant surface material. The "Flip" construction means the entire shoe's exterior reads as elephant print at every point above the midsole except the smooth toe and heel overlays, making the texture relationship the exact inverse of every other AJ3 in the catalog. White, Black, Cement Grey, and Metallic Silver distribute across the overlays, eyelets, Jumpman branding, and midsole in the multi-color combination that gives the official colorway its "Multi-Color" secondary designation. Super Bowl LXI-specific detail work — including SoFi Stadium references and the game's Roman numeral — appears across the tongue lining and insole in the event-specific branding placement consistent with Jordan Brand's previous Super Bowl releases.
