The Nike V2K Run DB x Khovny Vignery "Doernbecher" is the V2K Run's debut in the Doernbecher Freestyle program — the 21st annual collection from Nike and Oregon Health & Science University Doernbecher Children's Hospital — and one of the most accessory-rich and personally specific designs the program has ever produced. Khovny Vignery is a 9-year-old from Keizer, Oregon, born prematurely and diagnosed with congenital chylothorax, a condition where chyle fluid accumulates between the lungs and chest wall in newborns. Her name itself carries a story: she was named after Stephanie and Dmitry Dukhovny, the doctors who saved her life as a baby, and her first name is pronounced like "snow." The design splits across two mismatched shoes — the right in pink, the left in blue — united by a set of shared construction details that carry her world across both. Furry tongues spill over the collar on both shoes, and the support panels run in gold snakeskin throughout — a tribute to her dream pet, a banana python her parents won't let her own, so she put it on the shoe instead. The blue shoe carries a panda face at the tongue and a blue butterfly at the heel tab. The pink shoe carries a sequin snake slithering across the tongue and a miniature replica of her stuffed monkey, Pinky Doo Doo, on the lateral side. Clear Swooshes packed with sequins run both shoes, and a light-up bear charm attaches as an accessory. Detachable friendship bracelets on the laces read "Ryan Forever" — a tribute to her late brother Ryan, who shared the same rare condition.
